The40s
The war years, a sad period for TYSC, that lost members who died for their country.
Some of them joined the resistance, others were sent to Germany to work, or to the concentration
camps. Frans van Spaendonck and Joost van de Mortel lost their lives, Frans died March 4th 1945 in
Buchenwald, Joost was executed August 10th both were accused of an illegal action.
Cor Wortel was caught in an illegal action in Oisterwijk on September 8th 1944 and was immediately
executed. The TYSC secretary Jan Eras, a member of the Geuzen resistance group, was captured in 1941.
He died in captivity in 1945.
The TYSC president Rob van Spaendonck was executed May 24th 1944. All of them will be remembered.
On Friday October 25th Tilburg was liberated.
With the Canadian Army in town renovations to the rink was started as the piping was in a terrible state.
Only 25 km behind the front lines hockey started up again in Tilburg, truly a hockey city in the Netherlands.
